The accomplished Telugu director Krish Jagarlamudi is still hurting after the blow he was dealt during the making of Manikarnika. Scarcely had he got out of that mess than his N T Rama Rao bio-pic underperformed at the box office.
Krish is now moving with all the caution of a trapeze artiste walking on glass. Says the soft-spoken director, “I’m working on several ideas. There are various scripts swimming in my head. It would be premature to talk about my next film because I haven’t decided what it would be.”
What about the reports that he was doing a film in Hindi? “I don’t have a language for my next film because I don’t have a next film. People write what they want in the hope that the arrow would hit its target in the dark. But the truth is, I need to walk very carefully with my next. There are so many who are waiting to see me make the wrong move,” says Krish.
After Manikarnika has he sworn off bio-pics? “No such thing. One Manikarnika can’t erase the success of my earlier costume dramas Kanche and Gautamiputra Satakarni. For all we know, my next film may be a costume drama. On the other hand it may be a contemporary entertainer with a message like Gabbar Is Back,” says Krish.
The fracas that he got into with Kangana Ranaut and her sister over Manikarnika is still fresh and hurting in Krish’s mind. “I wouldn’t like to talk about it. I wish them all the best,” Krish hastily moves on.
New exciting locations are getting more and more difficult to find for our Bollywood filmmakers. Gone are the days when all they had to do was go to any part of Switzerland and point the camera at any spot. Nowadays the hunt is constantly on for virgin locales. David Dhawan has zeroed in on Baku in Azerbaijan as his chosen location for the remake of Coolie No 1.
Speaking from the location he says, “You have to see this place. It is paradise on earth. We were invited by the government of Azerbaijan to visit and choose the location and we were completely bowled over. Why hasn’t anyone shot an Indian film here before?”
Coolie No.1 will be a remake of David Dhawan’s 1995 superhit of the same name where Govinda played the eponymous role of a railway porter who poses as a millionaire to marry the heiress Karisma Kapoor.
While Varun takes over Govinda’s role, Sara Ali Khan plays the heiress. The original film was shot in Mumbai. It would be interesting how writer Rumi Jaffrey takes the plot to Azerbaijan.
Ajay Devgn, who is currently riding high on the success of De De Pyaar De, is all set to move on with his other projects. While he does have some interesting films in the pipeline, the actor also wants to focus on the story of Chanakya, the historical scholar whose idea of politics and society is applied even today. While there have been many reports in the past speculating about it, now we hear that Ajay is planning to make it as a two part series.
Everyone who has come across the Chanakya Neeti, would be aware that this has been one of the most popular books of a great scholar! Keeping in mind the same, his life and his books have inspired many filmmakers in the past. Now if reports are to be believed, Ajay Devgn is already said to have started work on the same and that he is working with none other than Special 26 and Baby director Neeraj Pandey. As per these reports, Ajay Devgn explained that they are finding it difficult to sum up the life of Chanakya in a one part series, because of which they have planned to extend it.
In fact, in these reports, Ajay Devgn also mentioned about how Chanakya has been way ahead of his time and how he has spoken about what is happening today politically, so many years before. He also expressed that it is difficult to sum up his life and history in one part. Speaking on the progress of the series, he added that Neeraj is currently scripting it.
On the film front, after the success of De De Pyaar De, Ajay Devgn is currently working on Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior and football coach Syed Abdul Rahim’s biopic. The actor will kick start the shoot of the later in the next few months.
