Ranveer Singh signs YRF’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar, film to release after ’83 (read details)

Ranveer Singh is all set to impress us once more after consistently proving his worth at the box office with movies like Padmaavat, Gully Boy and Simmba. Now, he is gearing up to play Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan’s biopic ’83. While he has had back to back projects, and they all did extremely well at the BO, he is now all set to dazzle us with a light entertainer. Ranveer will be seen in and as Jayeshbhai Jordaar, a Yash Raj Films production!

Now, if you think that the quirky title totally suits the versatile actor, wait till you hear the premise of the plot. The movie is set in Gujarat and is a total entertainer. There is going to be a lot of humour in it and the film is for everyone. Now, this is a kind of movie which actually is Singh’s forte. The film is written by a first timer Divyang Thakkar and will be produced by Maneesh Sharma.

Ranveer said, “I have been immensely fortunate to have collaborated with some of the finest film-makers of our country. It is humbling and gratifying that they believed in my craft and chose me to lead their cinematic vision. All that I have achieved as an actor today is due to these titanic cinematic forces having put their faith in me. I’m glad that today I find myself in a position where I can recognise exceptional talent and wholeheartedly back the vision of a brilliant new writer-director like Divyang. Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be my next release after 83.”

Ranveer added, “Jayeshbhai is a film with a big heart. In its concept as well as in its appeal, it encompasses the broadest spectrum of the cinema-loving audience- it’s a film for everyone! It is, in fact, a ‘miracle script’ that YRF found for me out of nowhere. The sheer brilliance of the writing compelled me to immediately green-light this film. Both humourous and poignant, Jayeshbhai is right up there with the most solid on-paper material I’ve ever come across”

Maneesh Sharma said, “For a producer and a filmmaker, the holy grail is a script that is a balance of a relevant message delivered in an entertaining manner. Divyang’s script is a great example of this balance and we are all very excited to have him helm it. What makes this a truly thrilling venture is that I see this as Ranveer and I ‘paying it forward’. Almost a decade ago, we started our journey together when YRF placed their faith in us newcomers and today we collaborate with another new talent to offer the audiences a content driven mass entertainer.”

Ranveer loved the script of the movie so much that he immediately said OK to the project. He is currently in London shooting for ’83 but that did not stop him from finalizing the project only because he loved the plot and the way the story is written. He believes that it has all the makings of a perfect potboiler.

Exclusive! Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Bharat to get a theatrical release in France!

The makers of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat, Atul Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar and Nikhil Namit are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the movie gets the biggest possible release across the world. They have given Cinestaan AA Distributors and its sister company C International Sales the international rights to Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat. And now, we have come to know that a Salman Khan starrer will release across movie theatres in France and have the widest ever release for a Bollywood movie in Germany – both countries known to shown Shah Rukh Khan movies. Bharat will release in its original version with subtitles in France and Germany.

Exclusive! FIRST TIME: Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Bharat to get a theatrical release in France!

Says a trade source, “While the plan is to have the widest possible release for Bharat, across as many known international markets and untapped territories, where Bollywood films don’t release at all, it’s a big achievement for the makers to have it release in France and shows how much popularity the movie has already gained in international markets. Bharat was recently showcased at the Cannes Film Festival where there was a sales booth for distribution and the distribution rights of the movie were snapped up for the French and German territories very fast. Bharat is very hot in the international markets and the makers are also contemplating a China release as they have received lots of offers from there.”

The source adds that Bharat will enjoy the widest possible release in France and Germany. “The popularity of commercial Indian films has increased in France over the last decade. Earlier, while Satyajit Ray classics and a Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW) would be selected over (approximately) 600 films every year as the French preferred art house cinema, the trend changed with movies like Aamir Khan’s Lagaan and Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gam which released in French as La Famille Indienne. Shah Rukh Khan is popular in France and Germany but now with Bharat release in such a big way in the two countries looks like Salman is all set to take the popularity baton over from SRK. Imagine Salman romancing Katrina in Bharat to a French audience who love Bollywood music!”

Nikhil Namit says, “We had planned a wide release intentionally. This is the widest ever release in France and Germany for a Bollywood movie. We will release it with French and German sub-titles in those two countries. The decision to release in the widest possible manner was a conscious decision taken by Atul (Agnihotri). It was our vision to release Bharat in such a way. We are very happy collaborating with AA Films as they are the biggest distributors in India right now. With Bharat, we are planning to go to the non-traditional markets – where people are shocked to know that films can release even in such far-flung places. We are going for the widest release for a Bollywood film.”

The last week has been stressful for the producer. Nikhil says, “My wife Nisha had an accident where she had to undergo immediate surgery and we were in the process of getting a censor certificate. Both happened on the same day and I had to call Dr Sandeep Chopra from Being Human, to help me and Nisha had broken a tendon. He arranged for us to got to Hinduja Hospital. Everyone was on call with me, including Alvira didi (Salman’s sister) and Atul bhai, were constantly in touch asking for updates on Nisha and the surgery.”

Bharat: Salman Khan reveals why Priyanka Chopra’s last minute exit from the film was embarassing

Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra still seem to be at war or it’s just that the actor is still salty that she left the project last minute. The actress had to leave her comeback project Bharat a month before the film went on the floor due to her wedding plans with Nick Jonas. Katrina Kaif was stepped into the role of Kumud aka Madam sir. But, that hasn’t changed Salman’s view on how embarrassing it was for her to leave the project suddenly.

Bharat: Salman Khan reveals why Priyanka Chopra's last minute exit from the film was embarassing

When asked whether Priyanka Chopra was a wrong cast choice for the role, Salman Khan said, “No, not a wrong cast. But initially, Priyanka was very keen to do this film. Ali (director Ali Abbas Zafar) and we all thought it was Katrina Kaif’s film. But Katrina and I did Tiger Zinda Hai just before that and Ali said that we need a girl who is ‘Hindustani’. I tried telling him, ‘Why can’t she (Katrina) pull off this role? She has been living in India for the last 20 years.’ But then Ali said, ‘Priyanka ka phone aaya tha (we got a call from Priyanka)’ and it is also true that Priyanka and my sister Arpita Khan are good friends. After all this, the ‘Nick story’ happened, the embarrassing thing happened and she chose to get married.”

Salman Khan further said, “Look, she did the right thing. She did what she wanted, and Katrina got what she deserved. She (Priyanka) informed us five days before the schedule was supposed to start… she must have thought that in this way I would get upset with her and will never work with her. She spoke to me saying, ‘Nick (American actor-singer Nick Jonas) has proposed to me and I want to get married, so there will be some date issues’. I said, ‘Sure, get married, we can adjust those two, three days. Then she said that she does not want to do the film. Usually, some people say ‘Shaadi ek saal baad karenge, abhi ye picture kar lete hai (I’ll get married in one year, I’ll do this film first)’. But she chose to get married which I think is outstanding.”

When asked whether he was upset with Priyanka, Salman said, “This is one of the amazing things Priyanka has done. It is a gutsy thing. She’s worked so hard, I think she’s one of the most hardworking actresses in Bollywood. It is so hard to keep a career live here and there as well. And then, the most important film of her life which would take her perhaps another 10-15 years, that she has refused to get married, I mean then it is an amazing thing!”

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama earlier, Salman quipped about Priyanka choosing her personal life over her professional and said, “And she (Priyanka Chopra), over Bharat, did choose USA in the nick of time. She has worked hard all her life, okay? And when she got the biggest film of her life, she dumped that film and got married. You know, HATS OFF! Usually, people leave their husbands for films like these.”

Bharat, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is set for Eid 2019 release.
